From Fr. Bill – 22 November 2020

This weekend we look forward to more positive news regarding an increase to our numbers for worship and being able to gather together at the altar of God for Mass. Our challenges are not behind us, (South Australia is a salutary reminder that we cannot become complacent) but each step breathes life back into our communities.

We expect that from 23 November we will be permitted to have the following numbers at Mass: 90 at Mother of God and 100 at St. Bernadette’s. These numbers are based on the square metres of each church.

These changes will have implications for the way we attend Mass and our pre-Mass procedures that are set down in our Parish Covid Safe Plan.

For a one-month trial period, this is how we will operate:

  1. Ordinary Weekday Masses – NO booking required.
  2. Saturday Evening and Sunday Masses – NO booking required but the church doors will be locked and no one will be admitted once we reach the capacity permitted under the regulations – it will be the first in gets the seats.
  3. Special Occasion Masses and other Sacraments or Services – Different numbers will apply and places must still be booked so that contact tracing details can be completed the day before the special occasion Mass or Service is scheduled.

With the increase in numbers at Mass and the time taken to process each person arriving in accordance with our Parish Covid Safe Plan – people must arrive in good time before Mass starts. Latecomers arriving after Mass starts may find the church locked and they will not be able to be admitted.
