Ryder Cheshire Homes  Ryder Cheshire Homes, 10 Donaldson St. have two events which might be of interest to you.
One is the first ‘Wednesday’ coffee and talk for 2019. 2.00pm Wednesday, 27th February. The speaker will be a representative of the Ivanhoe Traders, reflecting on “Staying relevant in this fast changing world”.    The other entitled “Quilts and Art display and sale” - at Donaldson St, Saturday, 2nd March, 1-4.30pm. $10 entry includes Afternoon Tea. Parish Excursion to the Islamic Museum

Saturday 16th March leaving from the Mary Immaculate Church car park at 10.30am. Tour of the Islamic Museum at Thornbury followed by lunch at the IMA Café.        The Islamic Museum of Australia (IMA) provides educational and cross-cultural experiences and showcases the artistic and cultural heritage of Muslims in Australia and abroad.     Through the five permanent galleries — Islamic Faith, Islamic Contributions to Civilization, Art, Architecture and Australian Muslim History — the museum fosters a more nuanced and realistic understanding of what it means to be an Australian Muslim.     By showcasing a wealth of contemporary artistic expression and an extensive cultural heritage, IMA facilitates space for critical reflection and personal interpretation — in the act of sharing, common myths and prejudices are dispelled and mutual understanding is established.        Admission $12 plus lunch at the Café. Parish Pilgrimage to the Holy Land

At the request / suggestion of some parishioners the Parish Pastoral Council has given its support to a Parish Pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 2020.  Its viability will, of course, depend on how many people are interested and ultimately book a place on the Tour. Harvest Pilgrimages will be organising the tour and formal details, information and booking procedures will be available once they have been prepared by Harvest.

Some basic details are:  Duration: 16 Days     Dates: 15th September 2020 - 2nd October 2020     

Cost: $7,700 includes airfares, tour guides, entrance to all sites, accommodation, most meals. At the moment this is an estimate and could vary depending on numbers.  Register expressions of interest with Fr. Bill at [email protected]

Christian Meditation 2019

Catholic Walking Club, New Members Welcome

The Catholic Walking Club is a bushwalking club founded in 1951 which has for its objectives the encouragement of bushwalking and allied activities in a Catholic atmosphere, and the fostering of a greater love of the outdoors. Taoist Tai Chi Classes

New Beginner Classes started on Monday 16 July from 9.30am - 11.00am at Mary Immaculate Hall, Waverley Ave, Ivanhoe. The first class is obligation free. Volunteers Needed

Can you spare an hour each week to visit a newly arrived refugee or migrant to help them learn English? There are isolated people across Melbourne who need your help to settle into their new communities in Australia. Melbourne Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) is   currently seeking volunteers. Tutors work one-on-one with students, or in small groups if you’d prefer to work as a team. Free training and support is provided and will commence in August. Mary Glowrey Museum:
The museum is now open Monday to Thursday 10am–4pm and Friday10am–1pm. Mary Glowrey Museum, ACU Fitzroy campus, Level 2, Cathedral Hall, 20 Brunswick St, Fitzroy.  The Museum is the perfect place to learn more about the remarkable life of Servant of God, Dr Sr Mary Glowrey JMJ. Victorian-born & educated, Mary Glowrey felt called by God to medical missionary work in India. She left Melbourne in 1920 aged 32, joined a Dutch religious order in India and served there as a medical missionary for 37 years. The  museum gives a photographic and interactive overview of her remarkable life. Individuals and groups very welcome. Cost: Free. Are you interested in helping people overcome disadvantage and undertake tertiary education? CatholicCare, in partnership with Australian Catholic University, is looking for people with degree qualification or higher to help guide & support adult students from disadvantaged backgrounds to commence formal study for the first time. Time commitment of Learning Partner is 1.5 contact hours a week with a matched adult student over the course of 13-week semester, including an induction session. Note: Volunteers are required to undergo a police check and must have a current Working with Children Card prior to commencing any volunteer work. When Life is Ending - Discussing Dying, Assisted Suicide & Euthanasia
The Victorian Government is seeking to introduce euthanasia and assisted suicide later this year. The proposed changes will impact everyone, not just the terminally ill. To help inform parishioners about the key issues involved, Archbishop Hart recently launched a resource titled – When Life is Ending. It is written by a religious sister who is also a GP and  bioethicist and seeks provide information that will be helpful to all seeking to oppose proposed legislation. St V de P Society Store  Volunteers:  Volunteers are needed to assist for periods of time in our local Vinnie’s stores at Heidelberg West.  Positions are available for volunteers who wish to involve themselves in the great works the stores do for the SVDP Society. Flexibility for volunteers to do half days only, full single days or multiple days in the afternoons of Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Institute of Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Papua New Guinea – Part-time recruitment:
The Institute of Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Papua New Guinea is looking for a permanent part-time receptionist / administration person to work on Mondays from 2.30 – 7.00pm at the Mercy Centre, Alphington.

 Volunteer Opportunity Assisting Refugee and Asylum Seeker:                                                                                                     Since our last request we have trained a further 22 volunteers to work in the schools assisting the Refugee and Asylum Seeker students. We now have 150 volunteers working in schools and our 3 adult programs. The majority of these volunteers have come through the advertising in parish newsletters.


Mercy Connect Project Melbourne– Mercy Works Ltd. is currently recruiting volunteers to support Refugee Students and Asylum Seekers in the Melbourne Archdiocese. The volunteer commitment is approximately half a day per week for four school terms. Experience working in an educational setting is preferred but not necessarily limited to retired, casual and part-time teachers; those interested are encouraged to apply.
Interview process will be in May followed by a Training Day early in June. There will be training days for all volunteers and support will be available on a regular basis. Our next Training Day is on Thursday 4th June.

We are currently recruiting volunteers for the second half of the year to work in one of the 34, Primary, Secondary, Catholic and Government Schools where we are placed, or with one of the Adult Asylum Seeker Language Groups in Sunshine, Dandenong and North Melbourne. Austin Hospital Mass:     There will be two monthly chapel services at Austin Hospital:
• An Ecumenical Service on the first Sunday of the month
• Catholic Mass on the third Sunday of the month.

Australian Christian Meditation Community at Mary Immaculate Hall:         
There is a Christian Meditation group meeting near you on Tuesday each Tuesday at 4.15pm at Mary Immaculate Church Hall. There have been good responses to our first meetings with an initial group of 11 starters. All are welcome and all are invited. Mary Immaculate Hall, 4 Waverley Ave, Ivanhoe. All are welcome. Heidelberg Planned Activity Group:
Brochures are available in each church for the Heidelberg Planned Activity Group, Repatriation Hospital, Banksia St, Heidelberg West. There are two Planned Activity groups which are conducted on Tuesday and Thursday from 10am – 2.45pm. There is a small weekly charge of $10 to cover the program and transport. Community outings are an additional cost.
A referral is required from doctors, health professionals, case managers or community services. Self referral, and referrals from family or friends will also be accepted if you are eligible and a place is available.

Family Care Sisters:  The Family Care Sisters facility at Croydon offers wholistic care to all women (aged 20-70 years) who are in need of a peaceful environment, ‘time out’, support or nurturing. Our residential program operates each week, Monday – Friday. Daily group sessions include topics on relaxation, well-being, self-awareness, boundaries etc. Suggested cost is $30 per day.
